Good Samaritan

Thank God that Ivan Smith is not a bystander. When he saw a car crash into the gas station pumps across the street he sprung into action just like a ‪#‎super_hero‬.

When I read this I thought about how many times I have driven by a stranded motorist because I am afraid as a women to stop and see if they need help. Many years ago I took a class about self-protection and they had a story they shared about how this woman would stand by her car like it was broken down and then when a ‪#‎Good_Samaritan‬ would stop her boyfriend would come out of hiding and rob them. I wish I never heard that story as I have let it prevent me from seeing if people need help if I am driving by myself. It turned me into the “‪#‎bystander‬” hoping that someone else more capable will help them. It took away my power.

What is your instant reaction when you see someone that might need your help? Do you spring into action, or is there something that keeps you rooted in place that needs to be released?

As Mr Smith ran across the road, yelling for help, he saw the 90-year-old driver calling for someone to help his wife. Even as the flames went higher, Mr. Smith knew that they might only have moments to live if the gas tanks exploded. Mr Smith was joined by several others in his community in pulling them both away to safety. The elderly couple are now in the hospital safe with only minor injuries.

A nomination for “recognition of brave acts by certain persons” has been forwarded to a committee of Fire and Rescue NSW, Armidale station commander Wayne Zikan said. Armidale police have also been inundated with calls for the civilian rescuers to be nominated for bravery awards.

I for one would vote for him to receive a hero’s reward. And a thank you from me for getting me to realize what has been holding me back, so that I can release it. I don’t want to spend my life as a bystander.

Think Beyond The Chair

When you are a ‪#‎LemonadeMaker‬ great things come your way. Heroes live among us. They put on their capes everyday, Sharina’s just happens to be a wheelchair.

When ‪#‎Sharina_Jones‬ was yrs old she was shot by another child, leaving her a paraplegic. Instead of being a victim, she made it her life mission to help those in third world countries who need wheelchairs through her non-profit “Think Beyond the Chair” and motivating others through her blog, Push Goddess.

Now Sharina Jones finds herself on the other end of receiving. She recently became pregnant and needed a way to make her dream of a wheelchair being stroller friendly. Asking around for solutions she heard about how some universities are working with high school students to give them college-level STEM research projects, so she contacted them for help.

True heroes have a way of inspiring others to become hero’s. To a true hero every detail counts, every second is important. They are willing to face a challenge, because they just don’t know how to give up. Kane earned his cape with this project. With this journey he joined the ranks of true hero’s because a positive impact and change was created.

‪#‎Alden_Kane‬, a 16-year-old high school senior was assigned to Sharina’s project. Kane worked for several hours after school every day for six months to come up with the device — drawing plans, making prototypes and testing out different materials. What began as 15 potential designs were slowly whittled down to just one.

Sharina says Kane’s stroller has given her a great deal of freedom, allowing her to shop at the mall, use public restrooms and go for walks with her son, all while knowing he is safe and secure.

Sharina said. “Kane’s a great kid. He is going to be an amazing engineer.” Kane’s plans for the future include studying biomedical engineering or aerospace in college next year. And the teen hopes to patent his design and pursue having it mass-produced by a major stroller or wheelchair company.

“That’s really the end goal here,” he said. “It’s great to have served Mrs. Jones — as one person, it’s had a great impact on her life. But imagine the impact that it could have on hundreds or thousands of lives.”

So LemonadeMaker Sharina actually gave birth to two – one her son, and one Kane, the inventor – being birthed into a LemonadeMaker, whose invention will go on to help countless others. Who knows how many new inventions he will go on to make, now that he truly understands how thrilling it is to have an ‪#‎impact‬ on another person’s life.

With a Purpose

I believe that all for profit companies need within their business model a way to give back to those in need. Do you believe that they should have a positive social impact in the communities in which they do business?

If a business was supporting the nonprofits located in your community, would you be more likely to support their business over another business, that was solely a for profit business?

Like Tom’s Shoes, “With a Purpose” is one of those companies.

They call it Blanket Drops. They sell licensed products such a college logo blankets. When you buy a blanket they donate a blanket to a nonprofit that is focused on veteran, shelter/housing and disaster relief initiatives.

They work with National Nonprofits as well as state specific nonprofits. The Blanket for a Blanket program, has donated over 6,750 blankets to multiple domestic nonprofit partners. Including additional company donations, With a Purpose has donated over 7,700 blankets to date.

It isn’t too early to be thinking of holiday presents. What a great idea to purchase a blanket, knowing that your gift to a loved one includes a gift to someone in need. Makes you feel all warm and snuggley, doesn’t it?

Pay It Forward

At 17 yrs old I was planning my wedding and moving to Seattle. I didn’t have a thought about creating an empire or making a difference in the world.

At 17 yrs old Madison is paying it forward partnering with various charities around the world, donating items from her footwear and clothing lines. She also is teaming up with the Association of Zoos and Aquariums to support its Saving Animals from Extinction campaign, by donating a portion of every sale to help protect some of the world’s most endangered animals. She is at 17 yrs old, already a well established LemonadeMaker.

What are three things that you would do with your money if you were a teenage millionaire?

When Madison was 7 she came up with designs for flip-flops featuring sea creatures. Her designs in the past 10 years have evolved into entire footwear and clothing lines. With over $1M in sales, she has already has her entire college education paid for.

At 14 yrs old when she saw a Tweet that Nordstrom was looking for new product lines, Robinson wrote a letter to a buyer at the retail giant, which resulted in FishFlops being sold in 64 Nordstrom stores by July of 2012.

I printed an application about a month ago to start writing articles on a pretty major site – it is still in my to do box because of my procrastination about being a “good enough” writer to be on their site. She has inspired me to be more confident in my ideas and dreams and get the dang thing filled out and apply to be approved.

What does it mean to be inspired?

What does it mean to be inspired?

The dictionary definition that I like the best is: a divine influence or action on a person believed to qualify him or her to receive and communicate sacred revelation.

I think of it as the act of drawing in breath, breathing in god’s heart and mind.

Like most of us, I have a dream. LemonadeMakers is my vision that pulls me through each and every day. The space it currently occupies is a wide chasm from where I believe it can go. I know, from the bottom of my soul, that this is why I was born. And if I let my mind go wild, it is terrifying to think of everything that I need to do in order to grow it into what it is meant to do.

That is where inspiration comes in. It gives me the confidence to admit I don’t know it all, but I can find someone who does.

It gives me the courage to think outside the box to figure out a way to get everything done on a shoestring budget.

It helps me use my favorite words of improvise, adapt and overcome when I come up against 2-ton boulders that block my way. It gives me super powers to blast those boulders into pebbles and continue on my journey.

It gives me the grace to let someone else take the wheel when I am tired and not think that I have to do it all myself.

It empowers me, refueling my tank when it is low to keep on the path to the next destination.

Inspiration is the key to the kingdom.

No Legs, No Limits

Wow! Truly inspirational‬. Her personal mantra is “no legs, no limits”. Reading her story I realized that my excuses for not being physically fit are pretty lame. What ‪‎limitations‬ are you buying into with your life today?

She isn’t letting what some people call a disability hold her back. She is proving that owning who you are makes you hot. What is holding you back from your dreams today?

There is a personal belief in yourself and your dreams that is definitely in play here. If it is in your heart, and you really feel it, the vision pulls you. There is nothing that will stop you. I read this in someone else’s Facebook posts and really liked it “it is like the sun – you can’t block it, it will shine regardless”. Do you feel that sunshine?

A true ‪‎LemonadeMaker‬, she is redefining the rules around beauty, and she is gorgeous. Kanya Sesser’s goal is to prove that “different” is sexy. She’s been modeling sports brands, bathing suits and personal lingerie since she was 15.

In addition to be being a successful model, she surfs, skateboards, races bikes, and is currently training for the 2018 Winter Paralympics as a mono skier.

She was adopted from an orphanage in Thailand when she was 5 years old. I want to give a shout out to the parents who adopted her. They raised her to be a strong, confident woman who is not afraid of who she is.

“I love showing people what beauty can look like,” she says. “These images show my strength.”

Beauty

My heart broke for Reshma when I read her story. Imagine walking out your front door. Your older sisters estranged husband and two other men attack you. They push you down to the ground and pour sulfuric acid on your face causing extensive damage. Your sister tries to help and suffers burns on both of her arms.

When something like this happens you ask yourself why? Reshma asked what could she do to help others. What could she do to bring awareness to the public, so that sulfuric acid is no longer sold in the makeup department for the price of a lipstick.

She is known as #‎BraveBeauty‬ because she is bravely bringing attention to these horrible crimes that happens in India, Bangladesh and Cambodia. She is putting a face to the crime. The crime seems to be only against women. Some are liking it to rape. In her case the family thinks it was related to how pretty she was before she was maimed. I believe that she is showing the world that the real beauty is what is inside.

They have created a petition to change this because every day a woman in India is being attacked in this way. Last year 309 acid attacks were registered in India. Activists say that hundreds go unreported. The video in this attached link was produced by the group Make Love Not Scars‬ and the hashtag ‪#‎EndAcidSale‬.

Heroes

Today is Batman day. I grew up in the 1960’s watching this show. It was inspiring that he took the murder of his parents and became a super hero protecting the innocent and catching the bad guys. A LemonadeMakers story.

When my kids grew up they loved all of the super hero’s that would go out and catch the bad guys. My son Seth was a huge Superman fan.

We have an extremely successful movie franchise going on for the past few years with the comic book super hero’s with Captain America, Iron Man, Thor and so on.

The Stars Wars Saga brings us hero’s that bring down the villains who are the dark side of the force. My oldest son was around 2 when it first came out. He sat mesmerized by the movie and didn’t move until the movie was over. He kept saying, “good show mommy, good show daddy”

What is the attraction?  Truth‬‪justice‬ and ‪the American way‬? I think that we all want to be an everyday hero‬. I think that what attracted people to Batman, is he didn’t have a super power, but he used tools to take down the bad guys. It made it seem that anyone could put on a suit and make a difference. Is that the attraction, making a difference? I think so.

LemonadeMakers

Thank you to all of my wonderful friends who support me year in and year out. I have been reviewing all of the posts on LemonadeMakers since the beginning of January.

It seems to be a buzz word to talk about how much we have grown, and I have said the same thing about my journey the past three years.

As I have been going through each of the posts and printing out the stats for them, I see plainly how much I have grown in what I was posting and writing. It took a few months to find the right voice for LemonadeMakers.

I am not saying that I fully understand what LemonadeMakers fully resonate with, but the past three months we have been growing almost1,000 followers a month. I am still experimenting with the right approach and we will be changing the look and feel of LemonadeMakers in the next 30 days or so.

What I do see is how much we love to see the good in humanity. That there are growing numbers of people who give without thought of recognition or reward, but because they see a need and a means to fill it. Lives are being changed everyday. Part of it is because we are encouraged by sites like LemonadeMakers to go out and do something positive in our daily lives.

If you haven’t checked out our site and liked it, please come over and join us. We are a pretty cool place to connect with other wonderful people. It will put a smile on your face and restore your faith in the human race.
